AAMVA/IRP, Inc. Delegation Heads South to Cultivate Relationship with Mexico

Arlington, VA–An AAMVA/IRP delegation including: AAMVA Chair of the Board Chuck O'Donnell; AAMVA President and CEO Neil Schuster; IRP President and CEO Mary Pat Paris; Vice President of AAMVA Programs and Member Support Mike Calvin, will travel to Mexico City, March 17, 2010, to meet with Mexico's Director General of Federal Motor Carrier Transportation (DGAF) and the Under Secretary of Transportation (SCT) and to begin reestablishing a formal working relationship with the SCT/DGAF. AAMVA anticipates that by reestablishing the strong cooperative working relationship that was originally built in the late 90s, members of the North American Association from the US, Canada and Mexico will be well positioned to jointly tackle today’s issues, that have become generally more global in nature.

"The issues that we deal with are, for the most part, the same," said Calvin. "It's much more productive to work together on common solutions to North American issues rather than working on them separately and then trying to put them together later."

"We are solidly committed to working together as a united 'North America' to improve the way we do business and to better serve the citizens of our countries," said O’Donnell. "In today's world it is no longer good enough to work separately on issues that are truly 'Global' in nature."

Founded in 1933, AAMVA actively promotes traffic safety and uniformity among North American jurisdictions. Representing chief motor vehicle administrators and law enforcement officials, the association develops uniform programs in driver licensing, vehicle titling/registration and motor carrier services, among others.

The International Registration Plan is a registration reciprocity agreement among member jurisdictions that promotes greater flexibility of commerce and facilitates efficient use of the highway system.
