Florida Official Elected International Chair of Motor Vehicle Administrators Group

Will Steer Association’s Highway Safety and ID Security Efforts

Arlington, VA–During its 74th Annual International Conference in Rapid City, S.D., the  American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) unanimously elected Glenn Turner, chief of staff, Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLDHSMV), chair of its International Board of Directors.

“We are fortunate to have Glenn Turner as AAMVA’s chair in 2009, our 75th anniversary year,” said AAMVA President and CEO Neil Schuster.  “His experience and record of success in Florida and his dedication to the motor vehicle community is an asset to all motor vehicle administrators in the U.S. and Canada as states build more integrity into our country’s driver’s license framework and vehicle registration and titling systems.

“He has a long history serving Floridians,” Schuster added,” and his ability to look into the future as we celebrate our past will serve AAMVA well.” Turner has selected “75 Years of Safety and Security” as the theme of AAMVA’s 75th Annual Meeting, which will take place in his home state of Florida.

Turner has more than 20 years of experience with FLDHSMV.  As chief of staff of Motor Vehicles, Turner is involved in the administration of the motor vehicle registration and titling functions.  Prior to being named chief of staff in 1995, Turner served FLDHSMV in a number of capacities including assistant director of the Vehicle Division, Chief of Field operations and Chief of Motor Carrier Compliance, among others.

During the last several years, Turner has served in numerous leadership roles within AAMVA and its subsidiary, the International Registration Plan (IRP), Inc.:  an organization that streamlined the commercial motor vehicle registration process for trucking companies and state and provincial motor vehicle offices and ensured the proper highway use fee apportionment to all states and provinces.  Turner has chaired many committees, and has served as an AAMVA international board member, and as a Region Two board member, officer and president.

Over the next year, Turner will lead state motor vehicle agencies in a collaborative effort with federal agencies and stakeholder groups as they work toward a 2008 implementation of the federally-mandated REAL ID Act.  And he will lead the association’s effort to bring all states into the national motor vehicle title network:  a key tool in preventing terrorist attacks, and halting vehicle thefts and fraud. His term as chair concludes at the 75th AAMVA Annual International Conference in Orlando, Fla., in August 2008.

Turner lives in Tallahassee, Fla. with his wife Joyce of 14 years.   They have two children.

Founded in 1933, AAMVA actively promotes traffic safety and uniformity among North American jurisdictions.  Representing chief motor vehicle administrators and law enforcement officials, the association develops uniform programs in driver licensing, vehicle titling/registration and motor carrier services, among others.
