ARLINGTON, VA—Today, the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) concluded a nearly four-month long search and named Ian Grossman as its senior director of government affairs.
Grossman is no stranger to the motor vehicle community, having previously worked as communications director for former AAMVA Chair of the Board Bonnie Rutledge, director, Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles. Most recently he was associate administrator for public affairs at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) working under another former, and longtime AAMVA member, Administrator John Hill.
“Having worked in a state motor vehicle agency, and serving in various transportation-related roles within the federal government, Ian is uniquely poised to manage this function for the association and its members," said Neil Schuster, president and CEO, AAMVA. ”He understands the complexities and nuances of being a government agency administrator that must balance and, when possible, accommodate state needs with federal priorities. And at a time when AAMVA is building stronger partnerships with its members and stakeholder groups, Ian is the right person for the job.”
Some of Grossman’s accomplishments include leading the crisis communications response for the 2007 Minneapolis Bridge collapse and leading communications efforts around Transportation Secretary Mary Peters’ congestion initiative.
Prior to his stint with the FHWA, Grossman was the director of communications for the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Founded in 1933, AAMVA is non-profit voluntary educational association representing the chief motor vehicle administrators and law enforcement officials in the U.S. and Canada. AAMVA promotes uniformity among its members by developing best practices in driver’s licensing and ID credentialing, vehicle tilting and registration and law enforcement, among others.
