It's appropriate at the end of the year to look behind you. So today we're looking back at the item on the back of our vehicle that we probably only worry about once a year, when it's time to renew it: the lowly license plate.
A recent survey by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators found that in Alabama there are 183,508 vanity license plates among the more than 4.5 million registered vehicles.
That number places the state at No. 17 nationwide for the number of vanity plates per vehicle, 4 percent of the registered vehicles. Virginia leads the pack with 16 percent of the tags sold there being vanity plates.
