The California DMV offices will be closed for business the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Friday of every month from August 2009 to June 2010.

Their systems will be up and fully operational during the Friday closures.

There will be no personnel to respond to e-mails or phone calls during the Friday closures.

August 2010

All public offices will be closed on Fridays Aug. 13, 20 and 27, 2010, in keeping with Governor’s Executive Order S-12-10.

The Department is in the process of rescheduling customers who previously made advance appointments that fall on an August furlough day. Customers can also change their appointment themselves either online or by calling DMV customer service at 800.777.0133.

Customers who have a registration renewal date that falls on Aug. 13, 20 or 27, 2010, will have late penalties waived until the next business day.

The Department offers a number of online services through its website (www.dmv.ca.gov) including payments for vehicle registration and driver license renewals via secure credit transactions, filing a notice of release of liability, change of address, and scheduling appointments.

No decision yet if there will be more furlough days in 2010, but it is a real possibility.

Individual vehicle titles/registrations are handled at the county level in Colorado, so those services are generally not affected by the state offices being closed on furlough days. Each county has different budgetary challenges and a few are closed various days during the month. Elbert, Fremont and Routt counties are closed every Friday.

Dealer titles are usually handled at the state level and therefore closed on furlough days. However, dealers can receive limited services at county offices when the state is closed.

All Department of Motor Vehicles offices will be closed to the public on Thursday, July 1, at 3:00 p.m. and will not re-open until Tuesday, July 6th, at 8:00 a.m. The closing combines both the holiday observance of Independence Day and the state required furlough time required of state employees.

There will be no DMV technical support during the following times:
Friday, July 2
Saturday, July 3
Monday, July 5 (AAA offices closed).

In the event of a technical emergency, you many contact DMV IST at (860) 209-9855 on these days.

Do not use this number for license renewal procedure related matters (questions on license renewals, validation errors, voids, customer situations, etc.) For those questions, please contact me at (860) 748-0145.

There will be support for the L1 camera system without any changes to their standard schedule.. As a reminder, the number for the L-1 Customer Care Center is (866) 875-1368.

Please refer to http://www.ct.gov/dmv/site/default.asp for specific
Photo License Centers and Satellite offices information for the upcoming Holiday Schedule.

*Department of Licensing offices will be closed for business on Monday, July 12, and some will be closed on Tuesday, July 13.

Licensing offices that are normally open Monday through Friday will be closed on July 12, and offices that are normally open Tuesday through Saturday will be closed on July 13.  DOL headquarter operations, including the customer service center, will be closed July 12.

Washington State Patrol offices around the state will close on August 6, 2010, as part of legislatively-mandated temporary layoff days due to severe budget shortfalls.

Even though offices are closed, troopers will still be patrolling highways and 9-1-1 operators will be answering emergency calls.

These office closures will not affect public safety. If you call 9-1-1 a trooper will respond to your emergency.
