Combined Standing Committee Activities

On Jan. 1, 2006, AAMVA instituted a new International Standing Committee structure. Designated as the Driver, Enforcement and Vehicle Standing Committees, this new structure streamlined the previous committee structure, which contained ten committees now called disciplines.

The new International Standing Committee held its first meeting in January 2006. This organizational meeting allowed the three Standing Committees to review the AAMVA strategic plan, implement a new administrative and programmatic structure, focus on a transition process, define roles and responsibilities of the committee leadership, examine current committee projects and create a mission statement and goals. The three committees forwarded recommendations for the new operating procedures to a newly formed Steering Committee, who ultimately approved the process.

The three International Standing Committees generally meet in joint session twice a year. The committees continue to review their individual and collective operating procedures, including establishing clear and active lines of communication between committees, disciplines and the AAMVA volunteer base.

Following a joint session of all three committees, the individual Standing Committees meet independently to discuss specific services and topics for their programmatic focus. In addition, the biannual meeting of the Standing Committee includes a place on the agenda for each individual discipline to meet and discuss topics more focused to their specific program area, including a review of current discipline programs and services, development and submission of future charters, consideration of topics for future AAMVA workshops and conferences, and ways to improve communications within the discipline. Finally, all three Standing Committees meet in joint session again to discuss new charter proposals and upcoming activities and meetings.

Copies of Standing Committee and discipline meeting agendas and minutes are posted under their respective site links.
