FHWA Seeks Comments on Interstate Oasis Program 

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is soliciting comments on a proposed Interstate Oasis program. Section 1310 of the SAFETEA-LU Act requires the Secretary of Transportation to develop standards for designating certain facilities as Interstate Oases and to design a uniform logo for such facilities. FHWA has developed a preliminary framework for an Interstate Oasis program and is seeking public comments in order to refine and finalize the program. Comments should include Docket Number FHWA-2006-23550 and must be received on or before April 28, 2006. Car Title Hearing Webcast Available 

Glenn D. Turner, chief of staff, Florida Division of Motor Vehicles, testified Wednesday, March 1, 2006, before Congress on motor vehicle fraud issues and solutions. The House Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection hosted this hearing, entitled “Car Title Fraud: Issues and Approaches for Keeping Consumers Safe on the Road.” Turner's oral testimony is available on AAMVA's Web site. NHTSA Requests Public Comment on Grant Information Collection 

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is soliciting public comment on a proposed collection of information on several grant programs. This is a new information collection regarding a grant program to prohibit racial profiling, state traffic safety information system improvements, and child safety and child booster seat incentive grants. NHTSA Requests Public Comment on Motorcycle Information Collection 

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is soliciting public comment on a proposed collection of information on a motorcyclist safety grant program. This is a new collection regarding a grant program for states that adopt and implement effective motorcycle safety programs. Eligibility for the section 2010 grants is based on 6 grant criteria: (1) Motorcycle Rider Training Courses; (2) Motorcyclists Awareness Program; (3) Reduction of Fatalities and Crashes Involving Motorcycles; (4) Impaired Driving; (5) Reduction of Fatalities and Accidents Involving Impaired Motorcyclists; and (6) Fees Collected from Motorcyclists. The information collected for this grant program is to include application submissions and various reporting requirements. Comments on this information collection must be received on or before May 1, 2006. FMCSA Requests Public Comment on CDL Information Collection 

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is soliciting public comment on a proposed collection of information on commercial driver's license policies and practices among the 51 jurisdictions. This is a new information collection regarding Compliance Reviews of the 50 states and the District of Columbia to ensure they are complying with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Comments must be submitted on or before March 29, 2006. FHWA Releases Report on Engaging Low-Literacy Populations 

The Federal Highway Administration has released a report that examines ways to engage low-literacy and limited-English-proficiency populations in transportation decision making. Included is a six-step process that provides a range of references, tools, insights and approaches to engage these audiences. More information is available on FHWA's Web site.

 

NHTSA Requests Public Comment on Impaired Driving and Safety Belt Surveys 

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is soliciting comments on a proposed collection of information. The agency proposed to conduct a series of telephone surveys that will examine the effectiveness of multiple national and state Click It or Ticket mobilizations and impaired driving crackdowns, as well as examine the effectiveness of more localized demonstration projects designed to curb impaired driving and/or raise belt use. The national and state telephone surveys would be conducted during the mid-2006 to mid-2009 time period. They will be administered to randomly selected members of the general public in telephone households. Comments must be submitted on or before March 29, 2006.
