Washington State Patrol, Commercial Vehicle Division, Receives Prestigious Award

Washington State Patrol Chief John R. Batiste is proud to announce Captain Coral Estes and the Commercial Vehicle Division was awarded the Motor Carrier Safety Leadership Award from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in Atlanta, Georgia.

This award was based on three important elements of the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP).

  • A state’s sustained commitment to data quality.
  • Concentration of the state’s roadside inspection program involving traffic enforcement activity in calendar years 2004 and 2005.
  • A decrease in the state’s large truck and bus fatality rates between calendar years 2001 and 2005 based on the state’s Commercial Vehicle Safety Plan.  This plan is submitted every year to the federal government.

One state from each of the four region’s service center was selected. Washington State was chosen from the 15 states in the Western Region Center as the leader in Motor Carrier Safety.

“Captain Estes and her team work very hard to ensure the safety and compliance of the trucking industry. I am proud of their hard work and dedication. This award says volumes about Captain Estes and her division,” stated Chief John R. Batiste.
