The American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) is the publisher of this AAMVA Code Dictionary (ACD) (Release 2.2.0) Manual, which is a set of ACD Codes used nation-wide to identify either (1) the type of conviction or (2) the reason for a withdrawal in messages sent over the AAMVAnet, AAMVA’s proprietary, secure computer network that connects to each Motor Vehicle Agency (MVA) of the 50 U.S. States and the District of Columbia (the jurisdictions).
ACD Documentation
The purpose of the AAMVA ACD manual is to provide information on the business rules regarding the use of the ACD code set in CDLIS and in the Problem Driver Pointer Systems (PDPS).
The scope of the ACD Manual includes a listing of the ACD codes with corresponding descriptions and abbreviations, as approved by AAMVA and implemented by each Motor Vehicle Agency (MVA) in the jurisdictions.
NEW!! (ACD release 3.1.0 -- effective Nov. 9, 2009)
AAMVA provided two, one-hour overview sessions on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 to provide details of this release and the timelines for annual releases (ACD 3.1.0 Release Highlights: PowerPoint | PDF).
NOTE: Discussions during the overview sessions led to a review of the D27 (Violate limited license conditions) not being valid for CDL holders. Based on discussions with FMCSA, a determination was made on the definition of a CDL holder which changes the way the D27 is used. The reference to the changes for the D27 in the presentation and the documentation has been removed.
