NMVTIS Jurisdiction Participation
Currently, 28 states participate in the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (75% of the U.S. vehicle population is represented) and 11 states are in development. Specifically:
- 14 states provide data and inquire to the NMVTIS – Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, South Dakota, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. These states have supplied files of all their active titles and brands to the NMVTIS central files – the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) pointer and brand files – and have also integrated NMVTIS online transactions into their titling systems.
- 14 states provide data, but do not make inquiries at this time – Alabama, California, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Caroline, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Wyoming. These states have supplied files of all their active titles and brands to the NMVTIS central files – the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) pointer and brand files – and provide regular updates to these files (please contact Marney Michalowski, NMVTIS Program Manager, for the date of the last update for a specific state).
- 11 states are in development – Arkansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont and West Virginia. These states are developing the capability to provide data and/or make inquiries.
