Kathleen (Kathy) Starnes, Motor Carrier Safety/CDL Policy Analyst, New York Department of Motor Vehicles (Posted 2/27/08)

  • I initially got involved with AAMVA in the late 1980s when I began working on our CDL implementation (I was in IT before my move to our CDL Policy Bureau in 2002). The many workshops that I have been able to attend have provided me with a wealth of information and contacts, both with AAMVA and other jurisdictions.
  • I have so many wonderful memories and experiences that I can't think of one in particular--but I really loved it when I'd make a point or suggestion in one of the CDLIS/PDPS workshops and everyone applauded me!! That happened twice! I've seen many AAMVA people go and have worked with many new ones. They have always been a great help to me, whenever I had a question or problem. I've had the opportunity through AAMVA to meet many people from other jurisdictions who continue to provide me with help and information to this day.

Fredrick Porter, Vice President, Region II Operations, AAMVA  (Posted 2/12/08)  Fred Porter
  • I became affiliated with AAMVA in 1980 when I took over as Administrator of the Arkansas Office of Motor Vehicles, and attended my first AAMVA regional and international conferences in 1981. My thoughts after attending my first conference were, "Wow -- what an organization!" The members' genuine interest in networking and helping one another was a breath of fresh air. Needless to say, I became involved and had the great pleasure and honor to serve at both the regional and international levels, culminated by serving as International Chair of the Board in 1996/97. When the opportunity to go to work for AAMVA was presented to me in 2004, I jumped at the chance because I believed strongly in the misson of AAMVA, and having now been on staff for about 4 years, my belief is even stronger.

  • There are so many great memories it would be hard to single out just one, but collectively, it's all the wonderful personal relationships I have built with admnistrators throughout the U.S. and yes, Canada -- even though we have no Canadian provinces/territories in Region II!

Steve Sebestyen, Vice President, Region III Operations, AAMVA  (Posted 2/12/08)  Steve Sebestyen

  • I have been involved with AAMVA since 1995, when I first began work at the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.

  • Although I have many fond memories, certainly becoming part of the organization in 2006 as an RVP stands out. It has been tremendously rewarding to experience this new relationship with the Region III jurisdictions and the AAMVA staff.

Keith Kiser, Vice President, Vehicle Services, AAMVA  (Posted 2/12/08)Keith Kiser

  • I attended my first AAVMA event (a Region III conference in Nebraska) in 1977 and remained an active participant in regional and international AAVMA activities until my retirement from state government in 2005. Since then, I have been an AAMVA employee and have been able to participate in a number of AAMVA events and activities.

  • My fondest memories of AAMVA relates to the many volunteers and employees I have had the opportunity to meet, work with, and now call friends. In addition, I really appreciated the opportunity to serve as the Region III president in 1995-1996 and the AAVMA Chair of the Board in 2003-2004.

  • Since 1996 and Robert McCain, Sr. since 1974.

  • No doubt, my year as Region II President and all the support I was given.
