Government Affairs

State motor vehicle agencies are a powerful constituency because we have contacts in every congressional district.  What happens on Capitol Hill or with federal agencies often impacts AAMVA jurisdictions’ operations and procedures. So AAMVA monitors U.S. federal legislation and regulations relevant to our community.  AAMVA also educates and communicates with federal policymakers about issues that are facing our motor vehicle and law enforcement communities.

Staff and board members often testify at hearings and other public forums on behalf of the association.  AAMVA maintains relationships with key executive and federal agencies, congressional and legislative staff.

Inside Government Affairs

Driving Toward Zero Deaths
In recent years there has been considerable progress across North America to improve road safety and reduce fatalities and serious injuries—but even one death is one too many. The Driving Toward Zero Deaths theme stands in support of a new global movement referred to as The Decade of Action for global road safety—and more specifically, the U.S. piece of that movement, Toward Zero Deaths: A National Strategy on Highway Safety.

Legislative Issues
AAMVA monitors U.S. federal and state legislative initiatives affecting the motor vehicle and law enforcement communities. Because Capitol Hill's actions can have a significant impact on AAMVA members' operations and procedures, we monitor changes and involve the membership on issues and trends that affect the community.

Regulatory Issues
