Access to NICB Data
AAMVA continues to receive data on hurricane affected vehicles from the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB). The data includes two types of information: Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) that have been deemed a TOTAL LOSS by the insurers are marked as "TOTAL LOSS" or “Y” on the database. Those vehicles that may have been affected by the hurricane but the status is unknown, the VIN/HIN is marked "UNKNOWN". If you have not completed the terms and conditions of use form please, you must do so before gaining access to the NICB database via the AAMVA Web site. The data is updated regularly; if you download the information it is important that you check the data base regularly to ensure you have the current information. The VIN status may change as a result of further investigation by the insurers. Remember, individual Vehicle Identification Number/Hull Identification Number (VIN/HIN) access is also available via the NICB Web site at www.nicb.org.
General Information Regarding DL/ID Issuance Process in Three Impacted States
AAMVA has been provided with contacts for states that need to verify identification of residents who have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina. These victims need photo identification in order to conduct business, have access to federal aid, etc. Information is listed on this page should any jurisdiction have a question concerning the identification of an individual who claims to be a displaced citizen.
