Mission
The mission of the Vehicle Safety & Inspection (VSI) Discipline is to promote highway safety and clean air through vehicle inspection and to promote uniform programs for compliance with accepted minimum standards for motor vehicle safety equipment and emissions equipment.
Goals:
- Evaluate motor vehicle safety standards and make recommendations on the structure and content as they relate to motor vehicles operating on highways.
- Evaluate continuing changes in automotive technology including parts and provide subsequent recommendations relating to the administration of vehicle inspection programs for these standards.
- Promote uniformity by evaluating jurisdictional policies and administrative practices in the development of AAMVA programs for equipment and vehicle safety and emission inspection.
- Act as liaison with organizations and manufacturers having a direct interest in vehicles and equipment.
- Recommend and promote uniform minimum training requirements for motor vehicle inspection personnel.
- Evaluate benefits of vehicle equipment inspection.
- Improve communication and coordination between VSI and other AAMVA Standing Committees to improve highway safety.
- Be recognized as the authority for motor vehicle inspection procedures.
- Work with other disciplines such as registration, titling and law enforcement to reduce Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) fraud.
Natural Gas Vehicle Cylinder Safety, Training and Inspection Program
The Clean Vehicle Education Foundation (CVEF) is a non-profit national organization whose mission is to assess and guide alternative fuels activities and build awareness for - and foster deployment of - alternative fuel systems including natural gas- and other clean fuel-powered vehicles in the public and private sector.
