NHTSA's "Drunk Driving. Over The Limit. Under Arrest." Campaign Begins August 18

The 2006 crackdown, "Drunk Driving. Over The Limit. Under Arrest.," will run from August 18 through September 4. During this period, more than 9,000 state and local law enforcement agencies from across the country are expected to be out in force to:

  • Identify and remove drunk drivers from our roads

  • Serve as a reminder that drunk driving is a crime and will not be tolerated

  • Help save the lives of people who might otherwise fall victim to impaired drivers

The "Drunk Driving. Over The Limit. Under Arrest." crackdown is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the Governors’ Highway Safety Association (GHSA), and law enforcement agencies nationwide. Visit www.StopImpairedDriving.org for more information. An impaired driving fact sheet and talking points and a breakdown of alcohol-related fatalities by state have also been posted on AAMVA's Web site.
