NHTSA Requests Jurisdiction Help in Getting "Share the Road" Message Out

NHTSA Requests Jurisdiction Help in Getting "Share the Road" Message Out

In response to the increased number of motorcycles and fatalities on the nation’s highways, the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), Public Law 109-59, Section 2010, Motorcyclist Safety, directed the Department of Transportation to develop and provide to the states model language for sharing the roads safely with motorcyclists. Featuring these messages in your educational materials and safety publications, including driver education and licensing manuals, can inform motorists of important safety practices and help avoid collisions. NHTSA is requesting your help in including these messages, as appropriate, in your highway safety materials. Over the past seven years, motorcycle crash fatalities have climbed steadily and precipitously. This type of information could contribute to reversing this deadly trend and saving lives. Please take a few moments to look at the "Share the Road" model language.
