    Trooper Peter Stephan was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Old State Road 25 while responding to assist a deputy at the scene of a crash. His patrol car left the roadway as he entered a curve and overturned before striking a utility pole. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

    Trooper Stephan had served with the Indiana State Police for four years. He is survived by his wife and six-month-old daughter.

    Trooper Tracy Vickers was killed in a vehicle crash on Route 408 at approximately 5:50 am. when his patrol car struck the rear of a truck.

    Trooper Vickers was a U.S. Navy veteran and had served with the Florida Highway Patrol for four years.

    Trooper Moises Sanchez succumbed to complications of gunshot wounds sustained on April 6th, 2019, in McAllen, Texas.

    He had responded to a hit-and-run vehicle crash. He located the suspect approximately one block away and attempted to take him into custody. The subject shot him in the shoulder and head during the arrest.

    Trooper Sanchez was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. He succumbed to complications of his wounds on August 24th, 2019, following surgery.

    The man was arrested following a manhunt and charged with capital murder after Trooper Sanchez passed away.

    Trooper Sanchez is survived by his wife and three children

    Sergeant Jeffrey Sicora died as the result of cancer that he developed following his assignment to the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site following the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. The contamination in the air at the World Trade Center site caused many rescue personnel to become extremely ill and eventually led to the death of several rescue workers.

    Sergeant Sicora had served with the New York State Police for 24 years. He is survived by his wife and son.

    Trooper Nicholas Hopkins was shot and killed while serving a search warrant at a home at 1426 North 42nd Street and Caseyville Avenue in East St. Louis, Illinois.

    He and other members of the Emergency Response Team were making entry into the home at 5:30 am when he was shot by an occupant during an exchange of gunfire.

    Trooper Hopkins had served with the Illinois State Police for 10 years. He is survived by his wife and children.

    Officer Andre Moye was shot and killed after conducting a traffic stop in Riverside.

    As Officer Moye completed paperwork to impound the vehicle the driver retrieved a rifle and opened fire. Despite being mortally wounded, Officer Moye was able to radio for assistance. Officers from the California Highway Patrol, Riverside Police Department, and Riverside County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and engaged the subject in a prolonged shootout. Two other officers were wounded and the subject was killed.

    Officer Moye is survived by his wife, mother, father, and siblings.

    Trooper Jerry Smith was killed in a vehicle crash when his patrol car was struck head-on by another vehicle on Highway 26 in Morrill County.

    An oncoming pickup truck crossed the center line after swerving to avoid another car that had stopped to make a left turn. The driver of the pickup truck was also killed in the crash.

    Trooper Smith was a U.S. Army veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and a Bronze Star recipient. He had served with the Nebraska State Patrol for five years and is believed to be the oldest recruit to complete the academy. He is survived by his wife and two adult children.

    Trooper William Moden was struck and killed by a vehicle while assisting at the scene of an earlier crash on I-70 near mile marker 324 in Deer Trail, Colorado.

    He was checking on the occupants of one of the involved vehicles when another car struck him at approximately 9:40 pm. Another trooper on the scene immediately began providing medical care. Trooper Moden was flown to the University of Colorado Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries early the following morning.

    Trooper Matthew Gatti was killed when his patrol car collided with two tractor-trailers on I-40 in Madison County.

    The incident occurred as Trooper Gatti was responding to a car fire. His patrol car struck the rear of one semi before spinning into the second one.

    Trooper Gatti had served with the Tennessee Highway Patrol for 11 months.

    Sergeant Steve Licon was struck and killed by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop on I-15.

    He had stopped a vehicle on the right shoulder and was in the process of taking enforcement action when a reckless driver drove onto the shoulder at a high rate of speed striking Sergeant Licon and pinning him and his motorcycling against the car he had stopped. Sergeant Licon was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

    Sergeant Licon had served with the California Highway Patrol for 27 years. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and step-daughter.

    Detective Ben Campbell was struck and killed by a commercial vehicle tire while assisting a disabled motorist on I-95.As he was standing outside of his vehicle two wheels of a passing logging truck separated and one of the wheels struck Detective Campbell. Detective Campbell was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor where he succumbed to his injuries.

    Detective Campbell had served with the Maine State Police for nine years and was assigned to the Polygraph Unit. He is survived by his wife and 6-month-old son

    Trooper Gerald Ellis was killed in a vehicle collision while on patrol. He was on patrol traveling westbound on I-94 when a wrong-way driver traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes struck Trooper Ellis head-on.

    Trooper Ellis was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

    Trooper Ellis served with the Illinois State Police for 11 years.

    Trooper Brooke Jones-Story was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer while conducting a traffic stop on U.S. Route 20 in Freeport.

    She had stopped another tractor-trailer and was conducting an inspection of it when another truck ran off the road, striking her patrol car before striking her and the truck she was inspecting.

    Corporal Daniel H. Groves was struck and killed as he assisted a driver that slid off the road during a blizzard. Corporal Groves was outside of his patrol vehicle when another vehicle slid off the road and struck him. Corporal Groves was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

    Master Sergeant Daniel Hinton suffered a fatal heart attack while participating in a defensive tactics training exercise at the Fort Myers FHP Station.  He was transported to the Gulf Coast Medical Center where he passed away a short time later.

    Sergeant Hinton is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

    Trooper Lucas Dowell was shot and killed as he and other members of the Virginia State Police's Tactical Team made entry into a home to secure it for a search warrant as part of a narcotics investigation in Cumberland County. 

    The occupant opened fire on the officers inside of the home, fatally wounding Trooper Dowell. Two other members of the Tactical Team returned fire and killed the subject.

    Trooper Dowell had served with the Virginia State Police for four years. He is survived by his parents and sister.

    Trooper Christopher Lambert was struck and killed by a vehicle while investigating the scene of a prior crash on I-294 in Northbrook.

    He was en route home when he encountered the three-vehicle crash on the left shoulder and stopped to render aid. He was standing outside of his vehicle when he was struck by another vehicle that failed to slow down or move over.  He was transported to Glenbrook Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

    Trooper Lambert was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the Illinois State Police for five years. He is survived by his wife, 1-year-old daughter, and parents.
