    Kevin Byrnes
    Interim Assistant Deputy Minister of the Ontario Road User Safety Division

    Since December 11, 2017, Kevin Byrnes has been the interim Assistant Deputy Minister of the Road User Safety Division, responsible for leading Ontario’s road safety programs through extensive partnerships, promotion and regulation of responsible driving behaviour. This includes continuing Ontario’s relationship with key North American road safety stakeholders, the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, and the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators.

    As the Executive Director, Driver and Vehicle Program Development with RUS, Kevin was responsible for setting priorities for a range of road user safety initiatives that will modernize program delivery and ensure safer road transportation in Ontario. 

    With a career in public service spanning 20 years, Kevin has held progressively senior leadership positions in the Ontario Government.  He has differentiated himself as a leader by building and motivating strong teams, by bringing a passion for engaging staff and stakeholders and leveraging these relationships to successfully realize business transformation opportunities. Kevin also brings extensive experience in creating and supporting strategies that advance reform across Ontario government sectors. 
    In previous roles, Kevin has been deeply engaged in the modernization of program delivery, and has led a number of large, innovative and complex initiatives across Government.  Most recently, he was responsible for the rollout of a single provincial information system across Children’s Aid Societies, a foundational component of the government’s plans to modernize and transform child welfare services across Ontario.
