    Trooper David Kedra was accidentally shot and killed while participating in a training exercise at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Complex, in Plymouth Township.

    During the exercise a live round was discharged and struck Trooper Kedra in the chest. He was flown to Temple University Hospital where he succumbed the injury.

    Trooper Kedra had served with the Pennsylvania State Police for just over two years.

    Corporal Bryon Dickson was shot and killed from ambush at the Blooming Grove Barracks at approximately 11:00 pm.

    He had just walked out of the front door of the barracks when he was struck by a .308 caliber rifle shot. A dispatcher who was inside of the barracks attempted to pull him into the building but also came under fire and had to retreat back into the building. A second trooper, who had been in the parking lot, also came to Trooper Dickson's aid but was wounded before he also had to retreat into the building. The subject then shot Corporal Dickson a second time, killing him.

    The subject fled the scene but was identified two days later when his vehicle and other evidence was found partially submerged in a pond two miles from the barracks. The subject remains at large.

    Corporal Dickson was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and had served with the Pennsylvania State Police for seven years. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

    Trooper Christopher Skinner was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on I-81.

    He was conducting a traffic stop just north of Exit 6 when he was struck. The driver who struck him continued driving up the interstate until stopping and running into the woods. He was apprehended approximately one hour later following a search of the area.

    Trooper Skinner had served with the New York State Police for 13 years and was assigned to Traffic Incident Management. He was survived by two children, mother, brother, and fiance.

    Trooper Chelsea Richard was struck and killed by a vehicle while investigating a crash on I-75, near mile marker 341.

    The vehicles involved in the crash had been moved to the shoulder. She was speaking with a tow truck driver and one of the occupants when a pickup truck pulling a trailer left the roadway and struck all three, killing Trooper Richard and the tow truck driver. The third pedestrian suffered critical injuries.

    Trooper Richard had served with the Florida Highway Patrol for nine years. She was survived by her 4-year-old son, parents, and grandparents.

    Sergeant Scott Johnson and Trooper Gabriel Rich were shot and killed while investigating reports that a person had brandished a firearm in the village of Tanana several days earlier.

    Both troopers had gone to a home in Tanana to speak to the suspect. At some point during the investigation both troopers were fatally shot inside of the home.

    One subject was taken into custody following the incident.

    Trooper Gabriel Rich and Sergeant Scott Johnson were shot and killed while investigating reports that a person had brandished a firearm in the village of Tanana several days earlier.

    Both troopers had gone to a home in Tanana to speak to the suspect. At some point during the investigation both troopers were fatally shot inside of the home.

    One subject was taken into custody following the incident.

    Officer Brian Law and Officer Juan Gonzalez were killed in a single vehicle crash while responding to a vehicle crash.

    Both officers were riding in the same cruiser responding to the crash, which had been incorrectly reported in the northbound lanes of Highway 99. As they responded to the scene they came upon the crash in the southbound lanes with one of the victims in their travel lane. The patrol car swerved in an attempt to avoid striking the victim, struck the guardrail, and overturned.

    Both officers suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Officer Law had served with the California Highway Patrol for six years.
