    Trooper Landon Weaver was shot and killed when he and another trooper responded to a domestic disturbance at a rural home on Juniata Township.

    He had responded to the home to investigate a protective order violation when he was shot. The subject who shot him had been released on bail on a felony charge earlier in the month. The subject was located the following morning and is now deceased.

    Trooper Frankie Williams was killed when his patrol car was struck head-on by a vehicle on Route 55 in Millville.

    He was responding to a call for service when the other vehicle crossed the grass median of the highway and collided with his patrol car. He was flown to Cooper University Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

    Trooper Cody Donahue was struck and killed by a commercial vehicle on I-25, near Castle Rock.

    He was investigating a traffic crash when the commercial vehicle struck him while he was outside of his patrol car. He was wearing a reflective vest at the time he was struck. 

    Trooper Donahue had served with the Colorado State Patrol for 11 years. He is survived by his wife and two young children.

    Trooper Eric Ellsworth succumbed to injuries sustained when he was struck by a vehicle on November 18th, 2016.

    He had responded to reports of low hanging power lines on Route 13 in Box Elder County. He was waiting for the local power company to arrive at the scene to repair the line when he observed a semi approaching. As he exited his patrol car to warn the driver of the obstruction he was struck by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

    Trooper Ellsworth had served with the Utah Highway Patrol for seven years. He is survived by his wife, three young sons, and parents. His father is a retired Utah Highway Patrol trooper.

    Trooper Timothy Pratt was struck and killed by a vehicle while assisting a lost motorist in Wilton, New York.  After speaking to the driver and providing him directions, Trooper Pratt stepped off the cab of the truck. As he stepped onto the roadway he was struck by an oncoming vehicle. He succumbed to his injuries approximately three hours after being struck.

    Trooper Pratt was a U.S. Air Force veteran and had served with the New York State Police for 29 years. He is survived by his daughter, two sons, and fiancée.

    Trooper Kenneth Velez was struck and killed by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop on I-90, in Cuyahoga County. Trooper Velez had served with the Ohio State Highway Patrol for 27 years. He is survived by his wife and three children.

    Constable Sarah Beckett was killed when her patrol car was struck by a pickup truck in Langford, British Columbia. She was on patrol at approximately 3:30 am when the collision occurred. The driver of the pickup truck was taken into custody following the collision.

    Constable Beckett had served with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for 11 years. She is survived by her husband and two children.

    Trooper Chad Dermyer was shot and killed while speaking to a suspicious person inside the Greyhound bus terminal in Richmond, Virginia.

    He and other officers were participating in an interdiction training course and were conducting stops of suspects. He spoke to the man briefly before the man suddenly produced a handgun and opened fire, striking Trooper Dermyer. Other officers who were on scene shot and killed the subject when the man opened fire on them following a short foot pursuit inside the bus terminal.

    Trooper Dermyer was transported to VCU Medical Center where he succumbed to his wounds.

    Trooper Dermyer was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He had served with the Virginia State Police for 17 months and had previously served with the Newport News Police Department. He is survived by his wife and two children.

    Trooper Jeffrey Nichols was killed in a single vehicle crash while on patrol. His patrol car left the roadway and struck a tree on FM 38 in Lamar County, Texas.

    Trooper Nichols had served with the Texas Highway Patrol for five years and is survived by his parents.

    Trooper Thomas Clardy died from injuries sustained in a vehicle collision on I-90 in Charlton.

    He was conducting a vehicle stop at approximately 12:00 pm when his unmarked vehicle was struck by a passing car that was traveling at a high rate of speed.

    Trooper Clardy was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. 

    Trooper Clardy served with the Massachusetts State Police for 10 years and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He is survived by his wife and six children.

    First Sergeant Joseph Portaro suffered a medical emergency while participating in a physical fitness run near the West Virginia State Police Academy, where he served as the Deputy Director of Training.

    He was transported to Thomas Memorial Hospital where he passed away.

    Sergeant Portaro had served with the West Virginia State Police for 17 years. He is survived by his wife and children.

    Struck by Vehicle

    Officer Nathan Taylor succumbed to injuries sustained the previous day when he was struck by a vehicle on I-80.

    Officer Taylor was directing traffic at the scene of a previous crash when a vehicle suddenly changed lanes and accelerated past slowing traffic. The vehicle struck Officer Taylor, causing him to be thrown into the median. He suffered two broken legs and internal injuries. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.

    Officer Taylor had served with the California Highway Patrol for six years. He is survived by his wife, three sons, parents, and two brothers. One of his brothers also serves with the California Highway Patrol.

    Cause of Death: Struck by Vehicle 
    Date of Incident: Monday, March 7, 2016

    Trooper Sean Cullen was struck and killed by a vehicle while assisting at the scene of a vehicle fire.

    Trooper Cullen had responded to a vehicle fire with injuries on the southbound lanes of I-295. He was outside of his cruiser and walking near the scene of the fire when he was struck by a passing vehicle. Trooper Cullen was transported to Cooper University Hospital, in Camden, where he died from his injuries.

    The driver of the vehicle who struck Trooper Cullen remained at the scene.

    Trooper Cullen had served with the New Jersey State Police for 18 months. He is survived by his 9-month-old son and fiancee.
