    Officer Andrew Camilleri was killed when his patrol car was struck by a drunk driver on I-880 in Hayward.

    He and his partner were parked on the freeway shoulder when the vehicle struck the rear of their patrol car at a high rate of speed shortly before midnight. Officer Camilleri, who was in the passenger seat, suffered fatal injuries in the collision. His partner was treated and released from a local hospital.

    Officer Camilleri had served with the California Highway Patrol for 16 months. He is survived by his wife, daughter, two sons, parents, brother, and sister.

    Trooper Damon Allen was shot and killed while making a traffic stop on I-45 in Freestone County, at 4:00 pm on Thanksgiving Day.

    He had contacted the driver and was returning to his patrol car when the man exited his car and opened fire with a rifle. Trooper Allen was killed at the scene.

    Trooper Allen had served with the Texas Highway Patrol for 15 years. He is survived by his wife and three children.

    Senior Trooper Thomas Nipper was killed in a crash while conducting a traffic stop on I-35, in Temple.

    He was sitting in his patrol car during the stop when it was struck from behind by a pickup truck. He was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

    Trooper Nipper had served with the Texas Highway Patrol for 34 years. He is survived by his wife and three children.

    Trooper Daniel Rebman was killed in a vehicle crash when his patrol car was struck by another vehicle on I-385.

    He was parked on the shoulder of I-385 when a pickup truck left the roadway and struck his patrol car from behind. Trooper Rebman was transported to a local hospital where he died later in the afternoon.

    Trooper Rebman had served with the South Carolina Highway Patrol for 13 months. Trooper Rebman is survived by his wife, three children, parents, and sister.

    Trooper Timothy O'Neill was riding his department motorcycle when he was involved in the crash in Plainfield Township.

    Trooper O'Neill had served with the Michigan State Police for three years. He is survived by his mother, father, brother, sister, and fiancee. The crash occurred two weeks before his wedding date.

    Trooper Louis Hendrix suffered a heart attack while on duty in Manchester the morning of August 18, 2017. He was transported to a hospital to Nashville where he passed away the next day. 

    Trooper Hendrix served with the Tennessee Highway Patrol for 28 years.

    Trooper Pilot Berke Bates and Lieutenant Pilot Jay Cullen were killed when their Bell 407 helicopter crashed into a wooded area in Albemarle County, Virginia.

    They were in the area to monitor civil unrest that was occurring in Charlottesville, Virginia. The helicopter experienced some sort of issue before crashing into the trees and becoming engulfed in flames.

    Trooper Bates had served with the Virginia State Police for 13 years and was assigned to the Aviation Unit. He had previously served with the Florida Highway Patrol for six years. He is survived by his wife and his twin son and daughter. He was killed the day before his 41st birthday.

    Lieutenant Pilot Jay Cullen and Trooper Pilot Berke Bates were killed when their Bell 407 helicopter crashed into a wooded area in Albemarle County, Virginia.

    Lieutenant Heath Meyer succumbed to injuries sustained 10 days earlier when he was struck by a patrol car on I-35. He had deployed stop sticks on I-35 as other troopers pursued a vehicle on the interstate. One of the patrol cars struck Lieutenant Meyer.

    Lieutenant Meyer had served with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for 12 years. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

    Trooper Michael Stewart was killed in a vehicle crash on Route 711, at the Route 271 split, in Westmoreland County.

    His patrol SUV was traveling southbound when a garbage truck attempted to turn left onto the roadway in front of it. Trooper Stewart suffered fatal injuries in the crash and his partner suffered minor injuries.

    Trooper Stewart had served with the Pennsylvania State Police for three years.

    Trooper Joel Davis was shot and killed in Theresa, New York, while responding to a domestic disturbance call.

    A male subject murdered his wife and wounded another woman who lived on the property. Trooper Davis was shot and killed after arriving at the scene. The subject, an active duty Army member, surrendered as additional units arrived at the home.

    Trooper Davis had served with the New York State Police for four years. He is survived by his wife and three children.

    Trooper Ryan Albin was killed in a vehicle crash on I-74, near milepost 155.

    His patrol car was struck from behind by a commercial vehicle as he slowed down for slow moving traffic in a construction zone. Trooper Albin's canine was transported to a veterinary hospital with minor injuries.

    Trooper Albin had served with the Illinois State Police for 11 years.

    Master Sergeant William Bishop was struck and killed by a vehicle while investigating a crash on I-75 in Alachua County.

    He was outside of his vehicle when a secondary crash occurred. One of those involved vehicles then struck Sergeant Bishop, pinning him underneath it.

    He is survived by his wife and son.

    Special Agent Michael Walter was shot and killed in Richmond, Virginia, while investigating a suspicious vehicle.

    He and several Richmond Police Department officers were conducting high visibility patrols due to a recent trend of shootings. The officers approached a vehicle parked facing the wrong direction and as they spoke to the two occupants of the vehicle the passenger opened fire on them, striking Special Agent Walter.

    Special Agent Walter was transported to VCU Medical Center where he succumbed to his wounds early the following morning.

    The subject who shot him fled the scene but was arrested in Northumberland County, Virginia, several hours later.

    Special Agent Walter was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He had served with the Virginia State Police for 18 years and was assigned to the Bureau of Criminal Investigations' Drug Enforcement Section. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and two sons.

    Corporal Stephen Ballard was shot and killed while investigating a suspicious vehicle at a gas station on Pulaski Highway, in Bear, Delaware.

    He made contact with two people at which point one of the men began struggling with him. The man pushed Corporal Ballard away from him and began to run before turning around and opening fire on Corporal Ballard, wounding him. The man then chased Corporal Ballard as he sought cover behind a vehicle. The man shot him numerous times, even after Corporal Ballard fell to the ground.

    Responding officers apprehended one of the subjects at the scene. The second subject fled to his home where he barricaded himself inside. After a long standoff, the subject exited his home and opened fire on officers, who returned fire killing him.

    Corporal Ballard had served with the Delaware State Police for 8 years. He is survived by his wife and daughter.

    Trooper Anthony Borostowski was killed in a single vehicle crash at mile marker 89 on eastbound I-90 in Sauk County.

    He was on patrol at approximately 4:00 am when his patrol car left the roadway and struck a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

    Constable Richer Dubuc succumbed to injuries sustained in a vehicle crash the previous day in Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle. He was responding to a call when his patrol car collided with a tractor on Highway 202. He was transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.

    Constable Dubuc had served with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for 6 years and was assigned to the Integrated Border Enforcement Team. He is survived by his wife and four children.
