    Theresa Egan
    Deputy Commissioner, New York Department of Motor Vehicles

    On July 21, 2015, Theresa Egan was named Executive Deputy Commissioner for New York's Department of Motor Vehicles and Acting Chair of the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.  In her current position, Commissioner Egan manages a State agency that collects just over $2 billion in annual revenue and has an operating budget of approximately $362 million.  The DMV is responsible for the licensing and identifying of over 14 million people and the titling, registration and inspection of over 11.3 million vehicles.  She also oversees a workforce of approximately 2,200.

    Commissioner Egan started her career at the DMV in April of 2007 as Deputy Commissioner for Safety, Consumer Protection and Clean Air.  Prior to joining the DMV executive team, Commissioner Egan was the Town Supervisor for the Town of Bethlehem, New York taking office in 2004. She also served as Town Justice for the Town of Bethlehem, from 1998-2003, where she became familiar with the Vehicle and Traffic Law and several other DMV programs. She graduated from SUNY at Albany and holds a J.D. from Albany Law School and has practiced law in the Capital Region for more than 30 years. Theresa is a recipient of the Excellence in Government Service Award from Albany Law School and continues to serve on community based and attorney related committees.
