    Walter R. Craddock, Esq.
    Administrator, Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles


    Bud is a lifelong Rhode Islander. He was born and raised in Pawtucket, moved to Warwick during high school, and has been a resident of Cranston for 40 years.

    In June 2015, Bud was appointed as the Administrator of the Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles. His duties include: regulation and enforcement of laws relating to the issuance, suspension and revocation of motor vehicle registration and drivers’ licenses; financial responsibility related to motor vehicle ownership and operation; vehicle safety and emission inspections, and other applicable state laws. He also serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) Region 1 Board of Directors.

    Previously, he served the DMV as chairman of the Rhode Island Motor Vehicle Dealers License and Hearing Board for 16 years.

    Prior to joining the DMV Bud was a member of the Cranston Police Department for 26 years where he held various position in uniform and plain clothes assignments before retiring as the police chief in 2002. He practiced law for 10 years and then transitioned to academia where he was an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Bristol Community College. He remains a member of the Adjunct Faculty at BCC.

    He holds associate’s and bachelor’s degrees from Bryant University, a master’s degree from Salve Regina University and a juris doctorate degree from Roger Williams University. He is a member of; the Rhode Island Bar, the Florida Bar, the Rhode Island Federal Bar, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

    Bud Lives in Cranston, RI with his wife Lynne. They are both active at Holy Apostles Church on Scituate Ave where he is a Eucharistic Minister and she is a Lector. They both serve as members of the parish charity committee.

    In his spare time Bud loves to read and play golf.
