AAMVA supports marketing and advertising by vehicle manufacturers and related entities that accurately portray and promote safe and lawful vehicle operation. Such marketing should reinforce compliance with traffic safety laws and establish safe-driving practices.

AAMVA condemns marketing and advertising that portrays or encourages unsafe or unlawful driving, including behaviors such as speeding, distracted or aggressive driving, or driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. AAMVA opposes marketing that misrepresents the capabilities of advanced driver assistance systems or other vehicle automation technologies. Representations of these systems must be accurate, not overstate functionality or capability, and should clearly convey the responsibility of the human driver.
