  • Consumer Access Approved NMVTIS Data Providers

  • The National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) is an electronic system that provides consumers (individual or commercial) with valuable information about a vehicle’s condition and history. Prior to purchasing a used vehicle, consumers may access NMVTIS data through an Approved NMVTIS Data Provider.  Approved data providers operate under contract with AAMVA, are authorized to sell NMVTIS Vehicle History Reports, and display the NMVTIS logo.

    Here you will find a number of tools to help in better understanding what is involved in becoming an Approved NMVTIS Data Provider and promoting the purchase of a NMVTIS vehicle history report.  

    Approved NMVTIS Data Providers, operate under contract with AAMVA. Only approved data providers are authorized to sell NMVTIS vehicle history reports and display the NMVTIS logo. The listing of all current approved data providers can be found on the U.S. Department of Justice NMVTIS Web site.

    The "Check NMVTIS Before You Buy!" brochure and companion video were developed to:

    • Raise awareness to anyone thinking about buying a used vehicle that purchasing a NMVTIS vehicle history report may protect consumers from vehicle fraud and unsafe vehicles, and
    • Remind the consumer that state agencies also use NMVTIS information as part of their vehicle titling process, and why not check the same system state agencies use?  
                           

    Approved NMVTIS Data Providers are encouraged to offer the video as a resource on their consumer-facing website.

    Additional Information 

    Approved NMVTIS Data Providers are required to offer their customer access to the state that has titled a vehicle to obtain additional information not part of the NMVTIS vehicle history report.
