Jeffrey Schmitz currently serves as the Director of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for the State of Alaska. He directs and oversees all aspects of the DMV’s customer service policies, licensing initiatives, and technology advancements. He also represents the DMV before the legislature, media, and the public. Prior to joining the team in Alaska as their Director, he was Minnesota’s Deputy Director for 6 years with the primary responsibility of overseeing statewide day-to-day operations. Prior to that Jeffrey spent 20 years as a regional manager overseeing multiple DMV offices managing all aspects of delivering licensing services to the public. In total he has more than 28 years of experience in the DMV world, performing in a variety of leadership roles. Jeffrey earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Minnesota and later went on to earn his master’s degree in Management.
