Kara N. Templeton has been with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) since 2000 and currently serves as the Deputy Secretary for PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services. In her capacity as Deputy Secretary, Kara is responsible for all aspects of driver license and motor vehicle operations within the Commonwealth, which includes overseeing safety programs for 10.2 million driver license and ID cardholders and nearly 12 million vehicles. Prior to becoming Deputy Secretary, Kara served as the Director of PennDOT’s Bureau of Driver Licensing, Director of PennDOT’s Information and Fiscal Services Office, the Manager of the PennDOT Customer Call Center Program, and the Manager of PennDOT’s Photo License Program.
For over two decades, Kara has been an active member of the AAMVA community and has participated in various AAMVA working groups and committees, such as the Driver Committee, Automated Vehicles Working Group, and Technical Advisory Working Group. Kara has also served on the AAMVA Region 1 Board.
Kara is a graduate of Harrisburg Area Community College with a degree in Criminal Justice and continued studies in Criminal Justice at Pennsylvania State University, Harrisburg Campus.
Kara resides in the Harrisburg, PA, area with her two cats adopted from a rescue, Sonny and Cher. In her spare time, you can find Kara attending to her flower beds, making jewelry, painting, singing karaoke, or on the cornhole courts.
