Specific-Use License Plate Programs and Alternatives to Metal License Plates

Specific-use license plates are plates not assigned to a certain vehicle such as dealer and transporter plates. Because these plates are not affiliated with a specific vehicle they are susceptible to misuse, fraud, and other criminal activity. Learn how AAMVA members created a best practice with over 70 recommendations to help create or enhance regulatory efforts for managing these license plate programs. Also, alternatives to metal license plates are providing opportunities for consumers and businesses to have a different and unique new way to display license plate information. Learn how a jurisdiction is offering license plate technology options with the use of digital license plates.
