On September 24, AAMVA’s Scott Vien attended the Internet Governance Project's Workshop, hosted by American University’s Washington School of Law. The Workshop’s theme was Identity Online: Shaping Governance through Digital Identifiers, where he took part in a panel discussion on the growing landscape of online age verification laws across the U.S.
During the panel, Scott spoke to the role mobile driver licenses (mDLs) can play in verifying identity online. He explained how ISO-compliant mDLs are built on core principles of privacy, security, and interoperability and how they give relying parties and age verifiers a highly trusted, cryptographically signed way to confirm someone's age without oversharing personal information.
