AAMVA Speaks at 2026 MBUFA National Conference

6/23/2026

AAMVA Vice President of Government Affairs, Cian Cashin, participated as a speaker at the Mileage-Based User Fee Alliance (MBUFA) National Conference in Washington, D.C. The annual conference brought together leaders from across the country and around the world to examine the evolving landscape of road pricing and mileage-based user fees (MBUF), covering topics ranging from surface transportation reauthorization to international road charging programs in Iceland, Norway, and New Zealand. AAMVA spoke on the panel titled Merging Lanes: Strong Commonalities with Tollways, DMVs and Pricing Reinforce Road Charging Adoption, which examined the growing alignment between the tolling, motor vehicle administration, and road pricing communities on MBUF adoption — including the challenges and opportunities that DMVs and state motor vehicle agencies bring to the table as road charging programs mature. The conference also featured sessions on a prospective national MBUF pilot, new state and federal legislative developments, Midwest pilot programs in Michigan and Minnesota, and the auto industry's increasing interest in road charging data. AAMVA's participation reflects the association's ongoing engagement on MBUF and vehicle miles traveled (VMT) fee policy as a key stakeholder in any future national framework.
