AAMVA Visits New Jersey

3/31/2026

Last week, Patrice Aasmo, AAMVA’s Director of Member Support for Regions 1 & 2, visited the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) and engaged in a series of productive discussions with their team. The conversations spanned an impressive range of topics, from interstate collaboration and staff training to federal regulations, best practices, recruitment strategies, foreign reciprocity, and even office safety and design. Throughout the meetings, the NJ MVC team showcased a forward-thinking agenda, highlighting several major initiatives slated for the next two to three years. Among these are the upcoming licensing and registration of all electronic bicycles, including insurance requirements, scheduled for July 2026; the implementation of automatic Motor Voter, E-Title/Registration, and launching of a new user interface in 2027; and rollout of mobile driver licenses planned for 2029. The MVC team is also actively assessing long-term modernization strategies to ensure ongoing progress. AAMVA extends heartfelt appreciation to the NJ MVC team for their warm welcome and exceptional hospitality, which made the visit both enjoyable and highly productive.
