The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) has published a white paper titled Stolen Vehicles with a Purge Status Indicator. This white paper clarifies what a purged stolen vehicle classification indicates and provides details for motor vehicle agencies and law enforcement in how to investigate and clear vehicles with a purged stolen vehicle status. This is particularly relevant for situations when NMVTIS indicates a purged stolen vehicle status. Motor vehicle agencies and law enforcement are encouraged to share this white paper with their staff.
