Clearing Up the Confusion: Making Sense of CDLIS Data Elements

This session focuses on clarifying commonly misunderstood CDLIS data elements and addressing the root causes of confusion that result in inconsistent data across jurisdictions.

Participants will walk through some key CDLIS data elements, their intended purpose, and correct usage, with an emphasis on real world scenarios where misinterpretation frequently occurs. This session aims to promote a shared understanding of CDLIS data elements, improve data quality, and reduce rework by aligning interpretation across states and stakeholders.


CDL Audit Part I: What Is a CDL Audit?

Join us for a session that delivers a comprehensive overview of Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) audits and the critical role they play in ensuring regulatory compliance, safeguarding program integrity, and promoting consistency in driver testing and issuance processes. Participants will examine a jurisdiction’s responsibility and authority to conduct CDL audits, review key audit-related definitions and core process components, and evaluate important considerations when determining whether to implement covert or overt audit strategies. By the end of the session, attendees will gain a clear, practical understanding of how to effectively plan, execute, and follow up on CDL audits to strengthen oversight and accountability.

CDL Audit Part II: Auditing CDL Vehicle Inspection and Basic Control Skills Test

Join us for a focused session on auditing the CDL Vehicle Inspection and Basic Control Skills tests. This session covers how to verify that each portion was administered, scored, and documented in accordance with FMCSA regulations and jurisdictional procedures. Participants will learn how to evaluate proper test setup, standardized instruction delivery, examiner positioning and prompting, adherence to safety requirements, and accurate, consistent scoring to ensure fair and compliant CDL testing.


National Registry (NR) Overview and Using NR Reports for Medical Certification Oversight

Join FMCSA’s Medical Programs team for a discussion on the implementation and ongoing success of the National Registry (NR). This session will highlight the collaborative efforts that supported the development and deployment of the system, the activities that sustain its operation today, and lessons learned along the way. Attendees will gain insight into common data entry errors and challenges observed within the system. The session will also include examples of how medical examiners interact with the system, including entering driver examination results, applying restrictions and variances, and resolving data correction tasks when mismatches occur in critical fields. In collaboration with FMCSA’s Medical Programs team, the AAMVA team will provide an overview of new NR reports available to SDLAs and how these reports can be used to monitor medical certifications originating from the National Registry.


The North American Standard (Roadside) Inspection

Whether you're behind the wheel, managing a driver record, or enforcing the rules of the road, roadside inspections affect everyone in the commercial vehicle industry. This introductory breakout session demystifies the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) inspection process — breaking down what happens at the roadside, why it matters, and how each stakeholder plays a role in keeping our highways safe.
