Federal Government Request for CDLIS Master Pointer Records

8/18/2026

As you may have seen in recent news coverage, AAMVA is working through the challenging circumstances of a request by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for certain records that are maintained in the Commercial Driver’s License Information System (CDLIS), an information system that AAMVA has operated and maintained for many years. As reported widely, twenty-two jurisdictions filed a lawsuit in federal court seeking to prevent the disclosure of records pertaining to their jurisdictions. There is currently a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) in place while AAMVA continues to work with all interested parties to navigate competing concerns. AAMVA’s highest priorities remain driver safety and the responsible management of sensitive driver information within its systems.
