William James Fackler

James Fackler is the director of the Office of Program Support for the Michigan Department of State (MDOS). His office helps with the development and implementation of new programs, including new legislative initiatives.  Previously, James worked for MDOS’s Office of Government Affairs for 13 years. As the department’s legislative liaison, James helped develop the initial Autonomous Vehicle (AV) legislation for the State of Michigan in 2013 as well as the 2016 Michigan AV law updates. 

James currently serves as the vice chair of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators’ (AAMVA) Automated Vehicles Subcommittee. James also serves as the treasurer for the Region 3 Board of Directors. He also represents Region 3 on the State-to-State Governance Committee.

James has a Master’s Degree in Forestry from Texas A & M University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Policy from the University of Michigan.
