2025 Card Design Standard Subcommittee

The Card Design Standard Subcommittee was convened to update and create realistic and durable standards employed by AAMVA jurisdictions to enhance the interoperability of DMV and traffic data records and to provide a voice for the AAMVA community in standardization efforts with other organizations. This improves customer service and safety while emphasizing privacy protection measures.

Submit Feedback on Update to Annex B of Card Design Standard

(Feedback Due May 22, 2026)

The AAMVA Card Design Standard Subcommittee is seeking feedback from AAMVA jurisdiction and associate members on an upcoming update to Annex B of the DL/ID Card Design Standard (2025). The update is intended to provide standardization for AAMVA jurisdictions who desire to incorporate a cryptographic key signature in the 2D PDF 417 barcode described in Annex D of the Card Design Standard (CDS).

This request for feedback is limited to the digital key signature update; other CDS change requests are out of scope for this update and should follow the normal change request process.

AAMVA community members who wish to provide feedback on this pending update should review the update and submit any feedback via email to Identity Management no later than Friday, May 22, 2026, using the feedback form here.



Goals


  • Communicate with members to determine the standardization needs for the AAMVA community
  • Monitor process to maintain AAMVA national standards
  • Provide input for the oversight and maintenance of AAMVA's conformity assessment efforts
  • Monitor communication efforts to promote standardization and adherence to established standards
